THINGS TO DO

Bird Watching

If you are one of the more than 51 million Americans who enjoy bird watching, Circle O Lodge is the perfect place to experience the beauty of nature.

North Central Missouri offers exceptional opportunities for observing a wide variety of birds throughout the year. As noted by Larry Lade on BirdForum.net:

“North Central Missouri is ideally situated in a favorable location for observing a wide variety of birds. It is located in the approximate center of the lower 48 states. More than 400 species of birds have been recorded in Missouri, and over 150 species nest in the state.”

With hardwood forests, open grasslands, wetlands, and a peaceful pond, the 60-acre Circle O Lodge property provides a natural habitat for many native and migratory bird species. Whether you are an experienced birder or simply enjoy watching wildlife from the deck with your morning coffee, you’ll find plenty to appreciate during your stay.

Fishing

Guests at Circle O Lodge are welcome to enjoy fishing in the pond located just in front of the lodge. The pond is stocked with bass, crappie, and catfish, offering a relaxing experience for both casual and experienced anglers.

We encourage catch and release, but guests are welcome to enjoy their catch as part of a fresh outdoor meal during their stay.

Fishing rods and basic tackle are available at no additional charge. Bait is not provided but may be arranged with advance notice.

For safety, we strongly recommend that parents provide and require life jackets for children near the pond or any water areas on the property.

Trails

Circle O Lodge features walking trails throughout the property, allowing guests to explore the natural beauty and diverse landscapes of the area.

From peaceful wetlands and open grasslands to wooded ridges and hardwood forests, the trails offer an opportunity to experience the full range of wildlife and scenery found on this little piece of paradise.

Whether you enjoy bird watching, nature photography, hiking, or simply taking a quiet walk in the countryside, the trails provide a relaxing way to reconnect with nature during your stay.

Walt Disney Hometown Museum

Walt Disney first came to Marceline, Missouri by train when he was five years old. When Walt returned in 1946, the Santa Fe train depot evoked cherished memories of when he first pulled into the Marceline. As a fitting tribute, the museum that honors him is located inside the very same train depot.

Walt Disney Barn

The Disney family moved to this farm in Marceline in 1906. It was on this very land that a young Walt Disney would say he found the magic of his life. Too young to be responsible for any major farm work, Walt and his younger sister Ruth found a deep connection to the magic of this farmland. On this farm, Walt held his first live show, developed his love for nature, and had a special place under his Dreaming Tree. The Dreaming Tree was a large cottonwood on the farm. Walt would often sit under the tree and draw or imagine stories. Years after he moved to California, he used the model of his family’s barn to create his own barn in his backyard. Using these same blueprints, the Disney barn was restored once again in an old fashioned barn raising to celebrate Walt’s 100th birthday. Although the land is privately owned, guests are welcome to visit the barn 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset at no cost. However, the farmhouse is a private residence so we do ask that all guests be respectful. And don’t forget your pen so you can leave your signature or note to Walt in the barn alongside other fans and dreamers.
